My Monsoon Getaway at the Casino Integrated Deltin, Daman

As our bus took a turn, the banter inside was enough to awaken the sleepy town of Daman, a part of one of the union territory of India formerly known as Daman and Diu. Awakened early to the promise of exploring the sprawling property of Deltin with like-minded foodies and heavy rain for company, I set out to explore. Innumerable selfies, pranks and giggles later we reached the resort clocking a journey of approx. 4.5 hours.

I stepped into the lobby taking in a mélange of colors in the upholstery and a twinkly chandelier lending character to the space.

I quickly peeked at the pool, which is visible from the lobby with a silent promise to return later. The smiling hostess presented us a glass of bubbly, along with the key to my room.

I walked towards my pool facing room taking in casino- themed glass walls and art by Krsna Mehta (India circus) adding vibrancy to the resort. The sense of space continued to my room, which had a comfortable bed, well-stocked minibar, a lounger and a huge bathroom with a bathtub to ease away any travel-induced stress.

The hotel is fairly new property sprawling across 60000 sq ft. of eye-pleasing expanse. The Casino is yet to begin business but there are other attractions for the entire family. Lounge in the huge pool area, dine away at two functional restaurants or enjoy domestic and international spirits at the “Whiskey Lounge”. One can hold the “Big Fat Indian Wedding” or arrange a conference at one of the banqueting facility called “Ballroom Grandice” or opt for an intimate event at other venues called Spades, Hearts, Clubs and Diamonds-Casino-themed, but, of course J

What you Get-

After strolling across the property, we settled down for a lavish lunch spread at the Vegas Café. A multi cuisine restaurant, open 24 hours a day hosted us as we ate through a delicious spread of two lunch spreads and a late breakfast.  We started with a hot soup and then gorged on a variety of kebabs. The best part of dining with like-minded foodies is the easy camaraderie we share as we sample delicacies. We unanimously agreed that the dishes that stood out were - Masaledar Gosht Seekh in appetizer and Paneer Khatta Pyaaz (chunky onion cubes and cottage cheese in red gravy) in the main course. The spread was huge and included- Chicken Hariyali Kabab, Butter tossed garlic potatoes, Thai Curry and a Risotto in the mains and New York Cheesecake and Gulkand Rasmalai (we liked the twist added with Gulkand) for desserts. The Cheesecake was a little dense and the Rasmalai lacked balance between flavors.

Our next stop after a master class was ‘Whiskey Lounge” where we bonded over premium Infused Whiskey’s and various Innovative cocktails. One can enjoy a good selection of domestic liquors, mocktails and cocktails. Do try the Whiskey infused with Cinnamon or Red hot Chilies, for the more daring. I tried a raisin infused Vodka cocktail and absolutely loved it. The service at the bar is excellent and was also one of the highlights of my stay.

In a happy mood, we settled for a late dinner at “Emperor” restaurant. Delectable flavors of Oriental cuisine come forth in a menu full of dishes with Cantonese, Indo-Chinese and Hong Kong flavors. We noticed the muted lighting and well laid out tables in individual pods that add a touch of intimacy to the place.

From the variety of dishes served, my personal favorites were -Juicy lamb chops laced with black pepper, crispy honey chilli lotus stem and steamed pomfret in soy sauce. The dessert disappointed me again. L

The next day, I chose to give the breakfast buffet a miss and opted for an European breakfast by the poolside served with a steaming hot cup of cappuccino.

Our Verdict:

With a 5 star offering, Deltin Daman does impress you with spacious rooms, well-stocked bar, good food and a soon to open casino with 1,000 gaming positions, including 250 slot machines and all international games such as Roulette, Poker, Blackjack, Baccarat and many more.

The resort also promises a late check out on Sunday to make your getaway memorable. Take your pick from three different pools to return with a happy holiday tan, soothe those nerves at the spa or host a large or a small group for events. The service is noteworthy, but the challenge I faced was to get out of that comfy, huge, fluffy pillow strewn bed, Sigh!!
