Khichdi The Global Food Restaurant Review, Menu & Must Try Dishes

The quintessential answer to every Indian household's mealtime question, "Aaj Kuch Halka Ho Jaye?" the humble Khichdi is more than comfort food. From a newborn baby's first food to an easy one pot meal for grown ups, Khichdi is a favorite of millions! Additionally, apart from being  culinary comfort, the dish is highly nutritious. One can add seasonal vegetables, fresh herbs or even nuts & dry fruits for a royal touch!

Recently we enjoyed a gourmet experience at Khichdi restaurant in Vidyavihar. Besides an amazing variety of khichdis the menu also has tempting Indian appetizers, vegetables made with seasonal favorites, Indian breads & delicious desserts. Let's us tell you a little bit more about our experience.

Located close to Vidyavihar station, this outpost has spacious indoor & outdoor seating. Moreover an authentic village ambience has been created with wooden accents, low seating & earthen pots used for cooking and as serve-ware. The restaurant can easily accommodate more than 100 guests and is divided into sections like "Thali section" and "Kutir" for big groups and an à la carte section indoors. Moreover, guests can enjoy quick bites like chaat items outdoors too!

We started with Thepy rolls, a different take on the popular frankie. Gujarati style theplas filled with cheese corn capsicum filling & served with a generous garnish of shredded cabbage.

We loved the Rajbhog Chaat - fried dumplings stuffed with sprouts served with sweet yogurt, sev, banana chips & sweet spicy chutneys. Paired with Bijora (a type of citrus fruit) sherbet & Pudina Jaljeera, it was a great start!

Next, we moved to Leela lasun rotla - flatbread made with jowar (millets) & green garlic. Moreover, the Surti Undhiyu (a winter delicacy) pleasured with it's authentic taste. Served hot in a clay pot, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and made for a hearty meal.

However, the highlight of the Khichdi restaurant menu are the delicious varieties of khichdis. From oats, millets & the traditional rice - moong dal variant, the restaurant also offers them in Mexican, Italian and other flavors. We settled for Panch Dhan (five grain) khichdi along with Rajasthani kadhi and khichiya papad (made with rice flour, Indian spices). The khichdi was a delight - nutritious & comforting, it made for a wholesome meal.

Further for desserts we tried Garam Mohanthal - a delicious traditional dessert with crumbly texture.

Satiated, we left with a gourmet urge to come back and try other varieties of khichdis. Khichdi restaurants across Vidyavihar, Borivli & Mulund are vegetarian only & serve Jain food. For more information, click here
