Review: Pind-da-flavour At Holiday Inn Mumbai International Airport
Baisakhi - a spring festival for Sikhs and Hindus celebrates the arrival of the harvest season and marks the auspicious occasion of Sikh New Year. The festival is celebrated with colorful clothes, song and dance and loads of festive food in the North. Saptami, the all day dining restaurant of Holiday Inn Mumbai International Airport is celebrating Baisakhi with Pind-da-flavour, an authentic Punjabi food festival. We decided to try the festival and indulged in some finger-licking Punjabi dishes that left us asking for more!
Punjabi cuisine is popular world wide and is known for its variety, authentic flavors, spicy taste, strong aromas and generous use of ghee. We settled down and started with Hara Bhara Kebab (a cutlet style preparation, popular across North India) made with potato mash, spinach, green peas and select Indian spices served with delicious mint-coriander chutney.
Next, we tried Malai Paneer Tikka - cubes of paneer (cottage cheese) marinated with mild flavorful aromatic spices, cream and cooked over charcoal. Both the starters were authentic and we were pleased to try something without any display of fusion cooking. The Tandoori Murg - skewered marinated chicken, roasted in hot tandoor (oven) was tender, moist and with a hint of smoky flavor. The live Chaat counter tempted us with many savory treats and we tried Golgappas (a delicious Indian street snack) and ended up asking the Chef his secret recipe!!!
Main course comprised for two more authentic dishes - Makki di roti served with Sarson ka saag. A delicious combination made with mustard greens and maize flour, the dish is a winter special. The roti as well as the saag were served hot, topped with a dollop of white butter - just the way we like it!
Dal Makhani - made with whole black lentil (urad), red kidney beans (rajma) and generous amount of butter and cream was simple, homely and tasted good with hot steamed rice.
In non vegetarian we tried Ajwaini Fish Curry - king fish made in delicious Punjabi style curry with generous flavors of ajwain (carom seeds).
