Trip To Soma Vine Village, Nashik
We loved the idea of indulging in wine tourism with a vineyard trip to Nashik, the official wine capital. Located at a distance of 173 km from Mumbai (approximately 3 hour drive from Central Mumbai via NH160) along the edge of the backwaters of Gangapur Dam, Soma Vine Village offers a getaway in the heart of the vineyard. A trip to Soma Vine Village, surrounded by the magnificent Sahyadri ranges, indulges you with a walk through lush green vineyards, guided wine tour, tasting varieties of wine watching the sunset and winding down with a stress free dip in the pool if you to chose to stay back.
We arrived at Soma Vine Village at lunch time and relished "Saoji chicken curry" a traditional spicy recipe from Nagpur with hot steaming rice. Satiated, we checked into our our lake facing room and admired the view.
After a brief nap, it was time for a guided wine tour that prompted us to become a wine connoisseur. We got to know more about the journey of grapes - from bud burst to the bottle. Right from the different grape varieties, harvesting, to how the grapes are blended into the finest quality blends - the journey is fascinating. After the wine tour, we settled down to sample 5 varieties of wine and we picked our favorites instantly.
We enjoyed a couple of glasses admiring the crimson sky at the outdoor restaurant near the winery and decided to talk towards the backwaters of Gangapur Dam. The view of the sunset here is mesmerizing! The serenity of the place is surreal and one gets to picturize beautiful images of the setting sun.
As the sun went down and we decided to take a refreshing swim in the pool of the villa and enjoyed an early dinner.
Next day, after breakfast we started our journey back home, making plans of yet another getaway but not without some fun moments.
