Widows Kiss Cocktail Recipe

Widows kiss is high proof cocktail with a heavy foundation of apple brandy and the complex aromatic zing from two herbal liqueurs. This cocktail is sweet and spicy but balanced out with a dash of bitters.

History:

The Widow’s Kiss is credited by most to George Kappeler, first published in his Modern American Drinks (1895).


Ingredients:
  • 44 ml of apple brandy such as Calvados
  • 22 ml of Yellow Chartreuse (a liqueur produced for centuries by French monks according to closely held recipes and includes more than 130 herbs, flowers and plants)
  • 22 ml of Benedictine (herbal liqueur beverage produced in France)
  • 2 dashes of Angostura bitters (available in gourmet stores)

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a chilled mixing glass. Add ice and stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
